4 Simple Steps to Energy Independence

4 Simple Steps to Energy Independence

Consultation

When you speak with our team during your free consultation we will ask you about your goals, your address, where you’d like to place the generator and cover all the basic info of owning a standby generator.

If your home is a good fit, we will move forward to the design.

Design & Survey

During this stage we will design your customized backup solution and provide you with a design for your approval. We will then send out a team to survey your home to ensure the design falls in line with what is physically possible and allowed by your utility and HOA.

Permits

Once we have an approved design we will make sure all paper work is cleared by your utility and any other governing body. This stage is typically the longest as varying governing bodies have differing timelines. Our team will ensure your project is streamlined through the proper channels.

Installation

Installation of the generator system can last between a few days and a few weeks depending on the complexity and size of the system designed for your home. We will connect the fuel lines and install the transfer switch. Once we have permission to operate from any governing bodies we will test the system and have it quality inspected by a Master Electrician.

Choosing the Location for your Generator

To pick the optimal site for your generator, consider the following:

Weather

When choosing the location for your generator, opt for a stable, well-drained area that is not prone to flooding. During your consult, we will provide personalized recommendations tailored to your specific needs.

Codes

In many regions, obtaining a permit is necessary for the installation of a standby generator. Our team will be sure to adhere to any and all codes before installation.

Utilities

The closer your site is to the electric meter and natural gas supply line, the greater your installation cost savings will be. This is because there are less materials involved in the installation process.

Sound

Many modern generators, particularly those with a steel enclosure, operate significantly quieter than portable units. Those without a steel enclosure will be loud and you may opt to move them further away from your home and any windows.

Surrounding Elements

Remember to maintain a distance of at least 3 feet from meters, air conditioning units, combustibles, or any serviceable equipment.

Maintenance

It is advised to leave about 3 feet of space around the generator to leave room for a service technician to do checkups on your unit.

What Happens during Installation?

We will also arrange for electrical service disconnection on the day of installation if necessary.

Typically, the installation process takes about 8 hours, encompassing site preparation, transfer switch mounting, conduit and wiring installation, fuel line setup, and a final simulation to ensure seamless operation during power outages.

The design is approved, the location has been selected, and install day is here.

GenTex Generators will ensure that all necessary permits (site survey, electrical, plumbing, building) are obtained and submitted, and if needed, coordinate with your utility provider to upgrade your natural gas meter or liquid propane (LP) tank.
